I stood on the grassy mound under a tree
There at the end of the rose covered meadow
My eyes stared to the east seeking a high place
Where perhaps I could see across the waters
The ocean’s waters wide across which she lived.
I picked a beautiful red rose and held it up to her
Perhaps she would smell it’s lovely aroma,
Drifting on the Summer breeze to where she was
I lifted it’s petals to strengthen the scent to her.
She would know from whence the aroma came
Across the ocean’s waters to where she was.
In the aroma she would feel the dampness of
The morning dew on the flower’s soft petals.
Like the dampness of the tears from my eyes
Knowing where she was at I should also be.
But no, let her come here and stand beside me
Here in the rose covered meadow we will be
Then we two together could brush the petals
Across our cheeks, bringing a blush to them
Warming them like our hearts would be warm
When we are united with our love beside us.
